Picture this – hilly landscapes, verdant green forests and scenic walking trails. That’s just a snapshot of what to expect in the beautiful Mount Dandenong. A popular destination for day-trippers, Mount Dandenong offers a range of natural attractions that will leave you awestruck.

Dandenong Ranges

The spectacular Dandenong Ranges National Park is one of the prime scenic attraction of the area. Not only are there panoramic views along the range, there is also an abundance of hiking trails and walks which will appeal to fitness enthusiasts. As you walk through the woodlands to the magnificent Sherbrooke Falls, marvel at the beauty of fern gullies and mountain ash.

The Kokoda Track Memorial Walk, or more commonly known as the 1000 steps, can also be found in the Dandenong Ranges. This trail is not for the faint-hearted as it can be physically challenging! An alternative is to take the Lyrebird Track which runs to the left of 1000 steps and is in the form of a sloping rise. Once you reach the top, catch your breath at the One Tree Hill Picnic Ground area which is well-equipped with picnic tables and free electric barbecue pits.

The Puffing Billy railway is a stream train starting at Belgrave which runs through the mountainous region of Dandenong Ranges. It is one of the most popular family-friendly attraction for visitors visiting Dandenong Ranges, therefore a tip is to buy your tickets online which would also enable you to save on admission prices!

Before you leave, stop by the SkyHigh lookout and admire the picturesque landscape of Dandenong Ranges and Melbourne’s eastern regions!

Miss Marple’s Tearoom

Sassafras is nestled deep within the pristine landscape of the Dandenong Ranges. This quaint little town houses the famous Miss Marple’s Tea Room which serves delicious scones, Devonshire tea and other delightful treats! Its pleasant aesthetics, warm ambience and hearty meals make this gem of a place the ideal go-to place for afternoon tea.
