Sydney has so many running events on offer for you to choose from this season. For those who are readily involved in the running community, there are a number of challenging events to satisfy. These are each fairly physically demanding options that may require suitable training if you’re up to the challenge. On the other hand, there are a series of more family-oriented events perfect for any age group to participate in. Importantly, many of these events are being held in the name of good causes as proceeds go towards linked foundations. Here are just a few events to get involved in this upcoming Autumn and Winter season.


Darkness Into Light

Held at the Bondi Surf Club, this 5km event is to raise awareness and funds for the fight against suicide and self-harm.

Mother’s Day Classic

8km event raising money for breast cancer research. Held in the CBD, looping between Macquarie Street and William Street.

Ultra Trail Australia

11km event in the Blue Mountains (approx. 1-hour drive from CBD)

May 16 / $80 entry / 12+ event

Pancare Foundation Walk For Hope

A 5km event held along the Parramatta River, raising funds for fight against pancreatic cancer.

Humpty Dumpty Balmoral Burn

This event is a 420-metre hill run. A family event up the steepest hill in Sydney up Awaba Street. Event is raising money for children’s medical equipment. Participants can enter either as an individual or as families or even with a pet.

Western Sydney Marathon

A series of different events for different age groups ranging from 2 – 42km. Held at the Sydney International Regatta Centre in Penrith.

Sutherland 2 Surf

An 11km track from Sutherland to Don Lucas Reserve, $1,500 prize for first place

Sydney Harbour 10K & 5K

Both the 10km and 5km events take participants around the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Opera House and the Barangaroo headland area.

Sydney Striders 10K Series

A series of 10km events over four different courses around the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre

Oxfam Trailwalker

A walk from Hawkesbury to the Harbour, both a 50km and 100km event. Raising money for Oxfam in its fight against poverty.

Ultimately, whatever it is you’re looking for in your running schedule, Sydney is littered with events on every street and beyond. From the heart of the CBD, the scenic harbour area and all the way out to the beautiful Blue Mountains, running will take you to every corner of Sydney throughout Autumn and Winter.
